Midwifery Care

darlene midwifery care

Since opening our doors in 1999 it has been our commitment to provide personalized, family centered care. Cascade Birth Center is the only licensed birth center in Snohomish County.  Although we have a thriving practice, we work hard to maintain that commitment to our clients, as this often times gets lost in those larger practices. We have the only “family owned, family run” birth center and in the Fall of 2014 look for CMBC to be the only mother/daughter midwife team this side of the Rockies! Cascade Midwives and Birth Center not only offers birth center births, but we love to attend births in your homes, too.  We support wherever you choose to birth your baby.

The Midwives at Cascade Birth Center are:

  • Licensed by the State of Washington to provide care to women from pregnancy through 6 weeks postpartum
  • Covered by most insurance companies, including DSHS
  • Committed to informed choice, shared decision making, and the midwifery model of care. We offer the same types of prenatal testing that women would receive from obstetricians, including the use of ultrasounds if you choose

Caring for you during your pregnancy includes:

  • Prenatal visits in a comfortable family room setting.
  • Plenty of time to ask questions during prenatal appointments
  • Educating you and your support team about your pregnancy and birth, as well as parenting and work related issues
  • Emergency contact numbers available to you 24/7
  • Perinatal and/or obstetrician consults 24 hrs a day to assist us if there is a deviation from normal

The Birth Day

Once the big day arrives, we will be there when you need us and admittance into the birth center is based upon an individual basis. When you are admitted, you have your choice of two elegant birth suites each complete with private bath, a queen size bed, and a Jacuzzi tub. There will be no change of shifts, and the midwife you start your labor with, will stay with you for the duration. You and the baby will be monitored, while offering support and natural laboring techniques such as aromatherapy, birth ball, massage and the use of the labor tub, which we affectionately call our “natural epidural”.

We believe that partners, family, and friends play an integral role in the new family, whether its welcoming a first baby or fourth. We encourage active participation for those important support people by providing a family room environment in the lobby, a comfortable sitting area in the birth suite, as well as a kitchenette complete with refrigerator, microwave and toaster oven. We invite them to make themselves “at home” while awaiting the arrival of the newest addition.

At Cascade Birth Center:
  • Frequently, dads help us “catch” the baby
  • Water birth is always an option due to the pain relieving qualities of water
  • We keep the new family together the entire time you are here
  • After the birth, we will carefully monitor and observe the baby with either you or dad holding them
  • The newborn exam is done right beside you on the bed
  • Will do a home visit 24-48 hours after the birth of your baby and schedule several more at our office to help you with the adjustment to having a new little one

We have helped over 1000 Snohomish County families grow since 1999. Stop by and visit us today and see why the use of midwives and birth centers are quickly on the rise!
